IUP women handle the Shock

iupIUP got exactly what it wanted out of the first round of the Susan G. Komen Shoot for the Classic women’s basketball tournament Saturday at Memorial Field House.

The Crimson Hawks cruised to an easy-as-expected 98-28 win over Washington Adventist, and West Liberty, this evening’s opponent, fought to the final minute in knocking off Edinboro, 76-70.

“That’s what we were hoping,” IUP coach Jeff Dow said, referring to the West-Liberty-Edinboro game. “We couldn’t have drawn it up any better. We wanted it to go down to last minute and force their players to play a lot of long minutes. That’s exactly how we were hoping it would unravel, and that’s how it worked out for us.”
