Djokovic mixes European, U.S. styles

Bethel women’s basketball coach Chris Nelson found the cornerstone for his program just two weeks after taking the job four seasons ago.

Assistant coach Martina Mihailovic sent Nelson game film on Nina Djokovic, a Serbian native that Mihailovic found while returning to her native Belgrade for the summer.

“I thought (Nina) was good, but I was looking for a 6-foot-6 type of a post,” Nelson said. “Martina was really high on Nina, so I just trusted her.”

Djokovic, a 6-foot-1 forward, developed into one of the premier NAIA posts because of fundamentals typical of European players paired with an uncommon toughness, Nelson said.
