Senior Claire Faucher carried the Portland State women's basketball program to its first NCAA Tournament berth Saturday afternoon, as the Vikings claimed the Big Sky Championship with a 62-58 win over Montana State.

OGDEN, Utah (March 10, 2010) - The Big Sky Conference has announced theWomen s Basketball All-Conference team and individual award winners for the 2009-10 season. The awards were decided following a vote by theleague s nine head coaches. Weber State earned recognition as Tonya Schnibbe and Caitlin Anderson earned Honorable Mentions. Julie Piper became the first Eastern Washington player in Big Sky history to earn theleague s Most Valuable Player Award. The junior was a unanimous selection to the first team, along with Idaho State senior Oana Iacovita. This is the first time either has been named to the all-conference first team. MontanaState s Sarah Strand and EasternWashington s Brianne Ryan have been selected as theleague s Co-Defensive Players of the Year. NorthernArizona s Amy Patton was a unanimous selection for Freshman of the Year, while teammate Vickie Toney was named Newcomer of the Year. Piper, a 6-1 forward from Roseburg, Ore., averaged 12.1
OGDEN, Utah -- Senior Night at the Dee Events Center did not go as well as Ali Thorderson, Sarah Conner and Tonya Schnibbe would have liked. The three Wildcat seniors wrapped up their careers on Saturday night in a 75-61 loss to Sacramento State. The Hornets put their run-and-gun offense to work, hitting 12 of 29 shots from three-point range. Ashley Garcia and Emily Christensen led the way for Sac State, scoring a game-high 21 points apiece. Charday Hunt, the Big Sky's leading scorer, added another 16 points for the Hornets. Sac State led 44-30 at the half, but the Wildcats pulled to within three points with 11:03 to play. Weber State would get no closer, however, as the Hornets quickly pushed the lead back to 11. Schnibbe wrapped up her stellar career for the Wildcats with a team-high 15 points. The senior point guard hit 6 of 17 shots from the field. She also hauled in five rebounds and posted a team-high five assists, with only one turnover against the frenetic Hornet
