Sacramento Monarchs Fold; GM Whisenant “Shocked”

News10 was the first Sacramento station to confirm that the Sacramento Monarchs women’s basketball team has folded effective Friday morning.
News10’s Bryan May spoke with team General Manager John Whisenant who confirmed the WNBA franchise was no longer part of the Sacramento Kings organization.

Monarchs’ Penicheiro has thumb surgery

Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro had surgery to repair a ligament in her right thumb. Her recovery time is expected to be three to four months. She was hurt June 7 at Seattle but missed only four games this year.
